IT WORKED ! HURRAY !!! and im spreading the word... Using Windows XP Step by step. 1. Go download and extract the Docsis Program at //docsis.sourceforge.net/ You can extract anywhere you want... Pref. C: 2. Run MS-DOS promt 3. Go to the directory where you extracted the docsis program. For me i just extracted it in C:docsis . MS-DOS put me in the desktop when i started it... so i just had to cd.. until it reached C: and then cd docsis to reach the C:docsis directory. 4. We leave our dos-promt where it is at the moment... just keep it on. 5. In your docsis folder, go to the dir examples... and open up modem-1.cfg . This is the default cable modem settings and its a file you can view in notepad and edit in it as well... 6. So now we actually start editing it in notepad. To boost your speeds, we generally want to look for stuff like MaxRateDown MaxRateUp MaxBurstUp GuaranteedUp I set my MaxRateDown and MaxRateUp to 10000000 which is equivalent to a 10mbit line (MUAHAHA) The MaxBurstUp shows how many bytes a modem can send in one burst. The default is 54314, you can change it slightly higher... say 74314. This will lessen the amount of latency and lag you have. Also of interest is the GarunteedUp. This setting garuntees that you will have speeds equal to or greater than the value set. The default is 32000, means youre garunteed 32000bits/sec on your connection. To garuntee that you have a faster connection, change it to say 128000, that means youre garunteed 128000bits/sec. However do be cautious if you set it too high like 9999999 or higher, you wont be able to go online becaue the isp doesnt have that much bandwidth and therefore wouldnt allow you to tap it. 7. Once youve edited your settings, save it. Now copy the modem-1 and the keyfile. Paste it in the previous (C:docsis for me) directory. 8. Go back to your ms-dos promt and now youre ready to compile. 9. Type it out exactly as done here. compile modem-1.cfg keyfile modem.bin 10. The dos promt prints out some data as it compiles... when its finished, you should see your compiled modem.bin file in C:docsis 11. Now comes the fun part. You will need a TFTP tool... i recommend the free solarwinds TFTP server which is available here //www.solarwinds.net/Tools/Free_tools/TFTP_Server/download.htm 12. Setup and launch the TFTP server. Your root directory is the C:TFTP-Root folder. Simply copy your compiled modem.bin into this folder. 13. Go back to tftp and configure (file->configure). Under security, put transmit and recieve files. And under log, make sure you select to log files. 14. Now you have everything in place. All you need to do is to get the modem to use your data. You can do an snmpwalk (i dont know how if you know u can tell me) or simply keep pinging. Now all motorola boards use 192.168.100.1 as the home ip. 15. So go to msdos again and type ping 192.168.100.1 exactly when you restart the modem. I disconnected the modem from the power then plugged it back in. Keep pinging until you get results. Pinging makes you connected to the server.. Modems use a router which figures the shortest route to the destination which is your computer and will download your file. 16. once your ping registers 0% packet loss again, go back and view the log file for tftp. If all goes well, you should see it recieve a modem.bin file. 17. YOURE DONE ! I now can upload with speeds up to 200kb/s ! and download is like 550kb/s almost everytime ! Hope it works for you...
